access

◎这个村庄很容易到达。

误：The village is easy of accesses.

正：The village is easy of access.

析：access表示“进入”、“接近”、“通道”等，均为不可数名词。又如：He is easy of access(他很容易接近)。

◎到他们家的唯一通道是一条狭窄的路。

误：The only (means of) access of their house is a narrow road.

正：The only (means of) access to their house is a narrow road.

析：表示通往或进入某地的通道，使用某物或接近某人的权利或机会等，其后通常接介词 to。如：Students must have access to a good library(学生要有使用好图书馆的便利条件)。

accident

◎在这次车祸中有五个人丧生。

误：Five people were killed in the car incident.

正：Five people were killed in the car accident.

析：incident 主要指普通的小事件, 也可指暴力性的政治事件；而 accident 则指偶然的不幸事件(即指事故)。

◎他做这事是偶然的, 还是故意的?

误：Did he do it on accident or by purpose?

正：Did he do it by accident or on purpose?

析：by accident 是习语，表示“偶然地”；on purpose 也是习语，表示“故意地”，注意两者介词的搭配不能混淆。

accommodation

◎这个城市的住房很贵。

误：An accommodation is expensive in this city.

正：Accommodation is expensive in this city.

正：Accommodations are expensive in this city. (from www.46english.com)

析：accommodation 表示“住处”、“住宿”、“膳宿”等，在英国英语中是不可数名词，但在美国英语中通常用复数，一般不与不定冠词连用。如：This hospital has accommodation(s) for 500 patients.(这家医院有五百个床位)。They provide good accommodation(s).他们提供很好的膳宿服务。
