accuse

◎警方控告他偷盗。

误：The police accused him for theft [stealing].

正：The police accused him of theft [stealing].

析：表示控告、指控、指责某人做某事，通常要用 accused sb of (doing) sth 这样的结构，注意不要将其中的介词 of 改为for，又如：He was accused of breaking the law.(他被指控违法)。

◎他被指控为同犯。

误：He was accused for an accomplice.

正：He was accused as an accomplice.

析：表示指控某人是...，英语用 accuse sb as...。

◎被告获判无罪。

误：The accuser was acquitted.

正：The accused was [were] acquitted.

析：accuser 指“控告者”，即“原告”；accused 指“被告”。the accused 可指一个或一些被告，因此用作主语时，其谓语 根据情况可用单数或复数。

accustomed

◎我不习惯这么早就起床。

误：I’m not accustomed at getting up so early.

正：I’m not accustomed to getting up so early.

析：表示习惯于做某事，通常用 be accustomed to，该结构中的 to 通常被认为是介词，其后接名词或动名词，但在现代英语中，其后也可接动词原形(即其中的 to 被视为不定式符号)。

achieve

◎他实现了他的目标----写一本书。

误：He reached his aim----to write a book.

正：He achieved his aim----to write a book.

析：表示“实现目标”，通常用 achieve an aim, 不用 reach。

◎车速达到了每小时100英里。

误：The car achieved a speed of 100 mph.

正：The car reached a speed of 100 mph. (from www.46english.com)

析：achieve 一般与令人愉快的事(如:成功、成就等)连用, 不要受 汉语影响滥用此词表示一般意义的“达到”, 但是我们可以说: On the test drive he achieved the speed of 200 mph.(在 驾驶测试中他开车的速度达到了每小时200英里-----因为在驾 驶测试中, 车速也是测试的项目之一)。
